Ala-ud-din Khilji was the ablest and the most successful ruler of the dynsty. He is also known as 'Second Alexander'. Amir Khusru was the court poet of Alaudin Khilji. Amir Khusru invented the musical instrument called 'Sitar'. He adorned the court of Sultan Alauddin Khilji and Ghiasuddin Tughlak. The first marage between a Muslim ruler and as Hindu princess was done between Alauddin Khilji and Kamala Devi, the widow of the ruler of Gujarat.Alau-ud-din Khilji adopted a bold market control policy and controlled the price of all commodities, food grains etc. The first sultan of the dynasty was Jalaluddin Khilji. He was murdered and succeeded by his ambitious nephew Alauddin Khilji in A. D 1296. Alauddin Khilji wanted to become a world conqueror and called himself the second Alexander (Sikander-i-sani). Alauddin Khilji is known for his market control system. Malik Kafur was the general of Alauddin Khilji.
